Project Background
From the idea of the project Zine 01: Don’t Speak, this project is the second artist book inspired by the contexts of different written languages around the world.The Art of Ancient Script: Chinese Writing talks about the brief history, elements, inventions, and other disciplines that are created based on the influences of Chinese writing systems.
The Concept
The texts and illustrations of the book were collected from many different public domain sources and re-designed. Later the content were engraved on bamboo sheets on both sides, cut into slats and then bound in the style that inspired by traditional Chinese slat books. With the use of the materials and other intentional design aspects, the goal of the book is to enhance the experience of the viewers and to show the admiration for the Chinese culture and language.
