The Works of Yayoi Kusama
The Challenges
For this project we were asked to choose an artist and then make a book for a specific museum’s bookstore that could suitably represent the artist. The challenge was to create a book about the artist that stood out from other books on the shelves. The design was meant to be inspired both by the style of the artist and the publishing style of the museum that is going to present them.
The Solution
I chose the artist Yayoi Kusama to create my book and decided to follow the Museum of Modern Art’s publication as my design guidelines. For this project, I paid attention to a high level of content and design details to create the professional published work. I chose Futura as the typeface for this book, since the type family was represented effectively for both the artist and the museum’s history. All design elements were carefully selected to maintain cohesion from page to page.
